Skills for Life, Jobs for the Future: CCG Returns to Latrobe Valley

Since early 2025, Community College Gippsland (CCG) has proudly returned to the Latrobe Valley, offering free and low-cost courses, plus job support, from our Morwell campus at 1 Hoyle Street.
In addition to being a registered training organisation, CCG is a part of Victoria’s Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Learn Local network. Our goal is to help adults improve literacy, numeracy and digital skills and build the confidence to take the next step. That might mean getting a job, starting further training, or simply feeling more capable in everyday life.
We work closely with local businesses, employment agencies and support services to deliver nationally recognised programs that strengthen foundation skills and open new pathways for learners.
Training for Real Jobs
When people build skills, confidence and connections, they change their futures. That’s why our Morwell campus offers a broad range of practical, hands-on employability programs. They’re designed to match the types of jobs available locally, and to give you the skills employers are looking for right now.
At Morwell, you can join programs like:
- Be Work Ready
- Gain the Edge – Language, Literacy and Numeracy
- Workplace Administration Basics
- Ready for Hospitality
- Kick Start Your Career in Customer Service Contact Centre
- Branching Out into Landscaping
- Warehousing and Distribution
- Launch into a Role in Health
- Get Ready to Work in Care and Support
- Small Steps – Big Careers in Early Learning
- Espresso Yourself – Barista
These programs do more than just train you for a job. They build your confidence, help you meet new people, and give you a clear plan for your next move, while helping to thrive in any workplace setting and life.
Local Support That Goes the Extra Mile
Alongside our training, our Work & Learning Centre (WLC), supported by the Brotherhood of St Laurence, offers free, personalised support for job seekers across Gippsland.
The WLC helps with:
- Career advice and goal setting
- Resume, application and interview preparation
- Training and education pathways
- Job referrals and employer connections
- Ongoing support after starting work or study
It’s local, it’s free, and it’s tailored to each individual’s needs.
Richard’s Story
Richard, a recent graduate of our Launch into a Role in Health course, shared his experience:
“I’m a casual barman in a Traralgon restaurant, and I found out about this course through my job network provider. My experience at CCG has been life-changing, positive in all aspects and socially enriching. The support I received from all staff at the Morwell campus was just above and beyond what I expected.
I have learnt new and extremely valuable skills, both for employment and for general social interaction. I honestly feel I’m a better person because of the experience CCG has given me. I thought I knew everything, but I’ve discovered so much more after doing the course. It has changed my life, attitude and confidence. If you’re thinking of getting back into work or study, CCG is a safe and friendly place to start.”
50 Years of Learning, Opportunity and Community
Our return to Morwell is part of a much bigger story. CCG began in 1975 as the West Gippsland and Latrobe Valley Community Education Centre, founded by passionate volunteers with a vision to give people a second chance at learning.
From those humble beginnings, we have grown into a network of campuses in
Warragul, Leongatha, Pakenham, Dandenong and Morwell. Over 50 years, thousands of students, staff, volunteers and community partners have been part of our journey, and many have gone on to inspire the next generation.
In 2025, we celebrate our 50th Anniversary, honouring our past, celebrating our present, and looking ahead to an even brighter future. Visit https://ccg.asn.au/event/celebrating-50-years-of-changing-lives/ for details.
