Reubun D’Silva, Launch into a Role in Health
I migrated to Australia in 2025 with my wife, bringing with me an undergraduate qualification in Computer Applications and overseas work experience. However, I quickly realised that securing a role in my field wasn’t as straightforward as I had hoped.
To build my confidence and improve my communication within the local community, I began volunteering with the Salvation Army, where I was able to develop my customer service skills.
A few months later, I attended a Workways Job Fair and came across CCG. The CCG team immediately understood my situation and took the time to explore suitable pathways with me. They identified how my administrative and IT background could transfer into the healthcare sector and recommended the Launch into a Role in Health program as a starting point.
My experience in the course was incredibly positive. I gained valuable knowledge in health and hygiene practices, as well as workplace communication, both essential in a hospital environment. Jen and Robyn were highly supportive, explaining each concept with practical examples and guiding us through health and safety procedures. Jen also played a key role in helping me prepare for interviews.
One of the most valuable skills I developed was effective communication, an essential part of working in healthcare. I also learned critical hygiene practices, including proper handwashing techniques, the correct use of hand sanitiser, and how to safely don and doff PPE.
Overall, my time at CCG helped me build confidence in working within a healthcare setting. I developed skills in teamwork, patient communication, and supporting individuals in aged care, including those with additional needs.
My work placement at Latrobe Regional Hospital provided valuable insight into IT roles within a healthcare environment. I had the opportunity to observe troubleshooting processes, hardware replacement, and software updates, as well as gain hands-on experience. The IT team, including Matthew Pinches, Cam, Terry, Nathaniel, and others were incredibly supportive and helped strengthen my professional skills and confidence in pursuing an IT career.
Alongside this, I am currently completing the Google IT Certification. Once finished, I plan to pursue entry-level IT roles and continue applying for opportunities at Latrobe Regional Hospital.
I would highly recommend these courses to others. They provide practical experience, industry insight, and the opportunity to build the skills needed to secure meaningful employment while discovering your career pathway.
