I had been searching for leadership development opportunities that would complement my current role and prepare me for the next stage in my career. I wanted a hands-on learning experience, not just another leadership workshop or seminar. I had contemplated joining a board, but I didn’t feel I was ready for a fully-fledged board position. I was second-guessing my experience at that level, so I held back from applying for anything. I saw this opportunity shared via a mutual connection on social media and I couldn’t believe what I was reading. This was the exact opportunity I had been looking for, the ability to enter a board environment with my ‘L’ plates on.
I have gained so much knowledge and experience over these 12 months that would be difficult to match in any leadership course or seminar available today. Month by month I have had deep dives into sub-committees, with one-on-one mentoring sessions with subject matter experts, paired with the monthly board meetings – it’s truly been a wonderful experience and one that should be offered by other Boards around the country.
The knowledge gained from the cadetship has had an immediate impact on my current role and will continue to add value to my career in the future. The confidence I have gained along the way, through meaningful connections with the CCG Board members has been truly invaluable.
