Cade Wilson

Cade’s career journey started back in year 10, when he completed work placement with Morwell Central Primary School as part of his secondary schooling.

“I was really unsure about what I wanted to do for work and my careers counsellor suggested I try education support. I felt at home right away in the classroom and had an absolute blast working with the kids. To my surprise, it didn’t feel like work at all. The idea of helping in the classroom as a career really appealed to me and I decided to pursue that after school.”

Cade secured a traineeship at the school that inspired his career path, Morwell Central. Throughout the traineeship, Cade was employed to work at the school, with his trainer regularly coming on-site for lessons.

“I found the training a bit challenging at the start – it took me a while to warm up to the written assessments,” Cade says. “But I had a lot of support from a really great trainer, and with Cat’s help, I got better and better. By the end of the course, I couldn’t believe the improvement in my skills and confidence. Learning with CCG was such a great experience.”

Cade graduated from his traineeship with a Certificate III in Education Support qualification and hasn’t looked back.

“I’m now in a full-time, ongoing education support role in the school. I work in the 5/6 hub and it is amazing to see the kids develop through the year, building on their interests and strengths. I really enjoy the inclusive, innovative environment at Morwell Central and I love what I do.

“If I met someone who was thinking about working in education support, I would tell them don’t hesitate – go for it.”
