Partnering to solve industry shortages
We are excited to announce the launch of the mutual partnership between the West Gippsland Health Care Group (WGHG), ACFE Learn Local, Latrobe Community Health Service (LCHS), Warragul Community House, Job Find, and Community College Gippsland, aiming to address employment challenges in West Gippsland. This initiative is designed to create entry-level career opportunities at WGHG, specifically targeting individuals who may face employment barriers such as low skill levels or low literacy, language, and numeracy (LLN) capabilities.
The course will provide learners with fundamental skills for a successful entry-level career at WGHG. Participants in the six-week program will receive comprehensive training, covering job-specific skills such as financial and digital literacy, interview preparation, mock interviews, and accredited units in workplace health and safety (HLTWHS001) and communication skills (BSBCMM211). Through these modules, participants will gain essential insights into the hospital sector, helping them build confidence and work readiness to succeed in these roles.
This program offers a strategic solution to support WGHG to fill vacancies in laundry, food services and cleaning roles. The partnership’s goal is to prepare suitable candidates to meet the WGHG’s workforce needs efficiently and effectively.
Participants who successfully complete the course and workplace training will be well-positioned to apply for casual roles at WGHG, with opportunities for ongoing permanent employment. This partnership directly addresses regional employment needs while simultaneously helping to resolve the staffing shortages within the hospital sector.
ACFE Learn Local and LCHS funding has enabled this course completely free for eligible applicants. The initiative is modelled on ACFE Learn Local’s prior successes with similar job-ready programs with Central Gippsland Health, Bairnsdale Regional Health Services, and Latrobe Regional Health, which have been instrumental in helping participants secure employment and transition to certificate-level qualifications.
This six-week program is ideal for individuals without prior qualifications who are seeking a career in the hospital sector. The pilot program will commence on 14 October 2024.
