Community College Gippsland gain Rotary Leongatha support to enhance student wellbeing
Community College Gippsland’s (CCG) commitment to student wellbeing took centre stage at a recent Rotary Leongatha meeting, where Den Lim, Business Development Manager at CCG, delivered an inspiring presentation on the college’s diverse offerings and philanthropic initiatives implemented for its independent specialist school, ECG Secondary College (ECG).
ECG welcomes those students who need more than just a place of learning, aiming to ensure that education is within reach for everyone. ECG currently caters to Year 9-12 students from all walks of life, who push through the challenges of life looking for a fair go.
In her address, Den highlighted several key projects aimed at enhancing the health and wellbeing of students, particularly those from ECG Secondary College. Among these projects is the Outdoor Sensory Space for the Leongatha campus, a tranquil environment designed to promote relaxation and focus, offering students a refuge in times of anxiety and distress.
“The sensory space is more than just an outdoor area; it’s a vital tool for improving student engagement and attendance,” Den explained. “By providing a peaceful environment, we’re helping students manage their mental health, which is crucial for their overall educational success.”
In addition to the sensory space, Den presented other philanthropic initiatives that CCG has activated to address barriers to education. These programs tackle financial challenges, social exclusion, and access to basic necessities, such as healthy food and ready-made meals. These efforts are part of CCG’s broader strategy to create an inclusive and supportive educational environment where all students have the opportunity to thrive.
Leongatha Rotary Club has played a significant role in supporting these initiatives, providing a generous donation that has been instrumental in the development of the Leongatha Outdoor Sensory Space. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving the lives of local students and fostering a stronger, healthier community.
“We are incredibly grateful to Leongatha Rotary Club for their support,” said Den. “Their donation has made a real difference, helping us create a space that will benefit students for years to come.”
Den’s presentation was well received by the Rotary members, who expressed their appreciation for the impactful work being done by CCG to support local students. The event underscored the importance of community partnerships in driving positive change and ensuring that every student has the resources they need to succeed.
“Leongatha Rotary Club is proud to support CCG’s efforts to improve the wellbeing of students and their school engagement,” said Jol Dutton, the President of Leongatha Rotary Club. “The Outdoor Sensory Space is a fantastic initiative that will positively impact many young minds, and we are delighted to contribute towards this project.”
As CCG continues to expand its offerings and philanthropic initiatives, the college remains dedicated to breaking down the barriers that prevent students from reaching their full potential. With ongoing support from community partners like Rotary Leongatha, the future looks bright for the students of ECG Secondary College and beyond.
