Donation from Club 88 to support ECG Secondary College

July 1, 2024

Club 88, a dedicated group of community-minded women in Warragul, has made a significant donation to ECG Secondary College (ECG). This contribution aims to encourage the learning journey of ECG students and to create a better future for the local community.  Club 88 is well known within the community to raise funds for worthy causes in Warragul.

Recently, the Community College Gippsland (CCG) Business Development Manager was invited to present to the Club 88 community about the initiatives and needs of both CCG and ECG secondary college. The presentation was well received, highlighting the importance of community support in enhancing educational opportunities for students. Inspired by the presentation, Club 88 decided to donate to the ECG Secondary College.

ECG Secondary College (ECG), an independent school, provides practical learning support to students in Years 9 to 12 who face barriers to their education and are looking for practical learning alternatives. Students from various backgrounds follow alternative learning through ECG programs to improve their secondary education. ECG offers a personalised approach to learning and a safe and engaging environment for these young minds to thrive.

The generous donation from Club 88 is expected to be used to fund academic scholarships for students to further their education into vocational or tertiary education and gain access to additional financial support through the start-up kits. These start-up kits are designed to improve student wellbeing and increase community connections and work readiness.

Students and staff of ECG expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the kind donation. The support from Club 88 not only provides essential financial assistance but also reinforces the community’s commitment to fostering education and development for future generations.

Club joint-president, Lynn Ferguson commented, “Youth are our future so it’s important that we support them by removing barriers to education such as costs.”

“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Club 88. Their support will make a significant difference in the lives of our students, providing them with opportunities to excel academically and beyond. The donation will go towards our scholarship program, where students who aspire to further education can access funds to cover their course fees in further studies. Funds will also support our Start-Up initiative, which focuses on student wellbeing, work readiness and connecting to the community.” said Dale Gemmell, CEO of CCG.

Club 88’s dedication to raising funds for worthy causes exemplifies the power of community spirit and collective action. Their contribution to ECG is a testament to their commitment to making a positive impact in Warragul.
