The Graduation and Awards Night for 2019 students of Community College Gippsland and ECG College has been cancelled.
CEO, Sue Geals, said that it was a tough but important decision to make.
“We strongly believe in celebrating the achievements of our students and the Graduation and Awards Night is a highlight on our calendar for that reason,” Ms Geals said.
“However, the safety and wellbeing of our learning community is paramount. We are heeding the advice about social distancing and its important role in reducing the spread of COVID-19. We are choosing to honour that guidance by stopping any non-essential school gatherings, including the event scheduled for March 25.”
Ms Geals said that it was important not to lose sight of the good moments in this challenging time.
“We are going ahead with selecting winners for six award categories,” she said. “We are yet to determine how we can best celebrate the students who went above and beyond in their learning, but we absolutely will. Watch this space for the results!”
The Awards Panel is currently reviewing applications for six awards:
CCG Student of the Year
ECG Student of the Year
Pre-Accredited Student of the Year
Trainee / Apprentice of the Year
VET in Schools Student of the Year
Brain Clarke Award for Rural Studies
The outcome is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
“For now, we want to congratulate all of our students – and in particular, our graduates – for all they have achieved in their studies and beyond,” Ms Geals said. “We are hoping that everyone stays safe and well.”
