This course prepares students to gain the qualification to apply to Harness Racing Victoria or Racing Victoria to become a harness or thoroughbred race horse trainer. The racehorse trainer is responsible for the care, maintenance and racing performance of the animals. You will be working with horses everyday while learning hands on practical skills and be provided with the opportunity to learn how to train racehorses. You will learn able performance tasks and duties associated with running a racing establishment, including managing staff, finances, equipment and managing horse health and welfare.

To appy to enter this qualification your must have: a racing industry Certificate III qualification demonstrating industry-relevant experience in the care, welfare and management of horses such as RGR30518 Certificate III in Racing (Trackwork Rider), or RGR30218 Certificate III in Racing (Stablehand), or RGR30318 Certificate III in Racing (Driving Stablehand) or demonstrated equivalent skills and knowledge in the care, welfare and management of horses commensurate with the qualifications above.

The training is delivered through a blend of practical skills training working with the horses and may include online delivery for the theory component dependent on the individual situation.
