Course Description

The course is offered as a campus based program and an Apprenticeship delivered in the workplace.

The course is delivered at the Gippsland Harness Training Centre which is a fully operational racing stables with school horses to suit all levels. This course prepares students to gain the qualification to apply to Harness Racing Victoria or Racing Victoria to become a harness or thoroughbred race horse trainer. The racehorse trainer is responsible for the care, maintenance and racing performance of the animals. A trainer at this level has developed a sound knowledge of all aspects of the industry and has acquired competencies that enable performance of all tasks and duties associated with running a racing establishment, including managing staff, finances, equipment and managing horse health and welfare.

Students who are completing the course as an Apprenticeship require a a contract with an Apprenticeship Network Provider and have nominated CCG as the Registered Training Organisation for providing the training.

To apply for this qualification you must have extensive industryrelevant experience in the care, welfare and management of horses. You must be able to demonstrate you have the appropriate skills and knowledge commensurate with the Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stablehand).
